Engineering Provider for Machine Safety: Expertise that Drives Safe Innovation

One of the most crucial phases when modifying a machine or production line is the engineering work that takes place before any reconstruction begins. This stage lays the foundation for the quality of the final implementation. The goal: to develop efficient safety solutions for machines and equipment.

The experts at tec.nicum see themselves as an engineering provider for machine safety. They don’t act merely as consultants, but as engineers who immerse themselves deeply in each customer’s project – keeping both the big picture and every technical detail in focus. That’s why engineering is such a vital task and a central pillar of tec.nicum.

How exactly do we support you? Our specialists handle all safety-related aspects during modifications and retrofits of existing machines—from the planning and design phase to the entire retrofit process, including reconstruction and commissioning.

We also have extensive experience in validating safety functions according to ISO 13849-2. Through measurements and technical inspections, we ensure that all safety functions meet the relevant normative requirements.

Across all our machine safety and other engineering services, you can rely not only on our technical expertise but also on our customer-focused approach—with one clear goal: to find the best possible solution for you and your clients. That’s why we provide you with machine safety consulting as well as engineering.

tec.nicum: Where Efficiency Meets Safety

As an experienced engineering provider for machine safety with various engineering services, we deliver tailored solutions for the diverse needs of machine manufacturers, operators, and industrial companies. Our machine safety engineering services range from risk assessments and overrun measurements to programming safety-related control systems, as well as assisting with the implementation of the Machinery Directive and Machinery Regulation.

Modifications to existing equipment such as rebuilds or retrofits require strict adherence to safety standards. Our engineers develop customized safety concepts precisely aligned with your situation, whether for new machines or existing ones that must be upgraded to meet current standards.

Every machine poses potential hazards. Our goal is to systematically minimize these risks through targeted planning and the implementation of safety measures. This ensures full compliance with legal requirements while maintaining maximum occupational safety for your employees.

Engineering Provider with Expertise: Complete Solutions for Machine Safety

Our approach is practical and results-oriented. From analysis and concept design to implementation, we accompany your projects with technical depth and many years of experience in engineering and machine safety. Through our clear project documentation, you always have a transparent overview of progress and next steps. Another key focus of our work lies in preparing machine reports and risk assessments to document compliance with applicable standards and regulations. This is especially crucial during modifications and retrofits to ensure smooth commissioning.

We assist you in selecting and integrating appropriate safety systems, coordinate concepts with relevant authorities, and guide you throughout the entire implementation process. Services offered

We can provide expertise for every life-cycle phase of machine and plant construction, involved in the design of new machinery and process, and the retrofitting of safety functions during the modernization of older machines. We also perform stop time measurements to calculate safety distances for various guarding systems and carry out the validation of safety functions and provide necessary documentation.

Stop Time Analysis

Our engineers test the stoppage time on the machine to reach a complete standstill. It is a crucial measurement to determine correct minimum safe distance for placing non-separating guards, like Safety Light Curtains.

Technical project planning

One of the most important phases in the modification of a machine or production line is engineering prior to the conversion work. This lays the foundations for the quality of subsequent implementation. The aim is to develop technical safety solutions for machines and systems.

tec.nicum defines the necessary safety elements and investigates the PL, SIL and PFHd values required. At the same time, the tec.nicum engineer can show you the best way to implement the modification.

Validation of safety functions to ISO 13849-2

Based on ISO 13849-2, tec.nicum produces all the documents (validation plan, error lists, calculations, etc.) and carries out the validation of safety functions by means of analysis and testing.

tec.nicum checks circuit diagrams for electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems and calculates the performance level (PL) and  PFHd for each safety function.

Measurements

Besides stop time and pressure and force limit tests, tec.nicum engineers can perform other technical measurements, such as electromagnetic capability (EMC) in accordance with the EU EMC Directive.
